Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) can have serious effects and sometimes there are no symptoms at all.
STI stands for 'sexually transmitted infections'. You might have also seen 'STD' or sexually transmitted disease. STI/STD refers to a disease or infection that is spread through sexual or intimate contact.
Some infections are spread by skin-to-skin contact while others are spread through blood, vaginal fluid, semen or other body fluids.
Not all STI's have symptoms so the only way to know for sure is to get tested.
Symptoms of an STI vary but can include:
Unusual discharge
Unpleasant odour
Lower abdominal pain
Pain during sex
Pain in the genital area
Lesions or sores on genital area
There are three kinds of STIs that are spread: bacteria, viruses or parasites.
Here are some of the common ones:
Bacterial infections include:
Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Syphillis
Viral infections include:
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis C (We do not provide testing for this)
HIV
